About the awards

The Rural Community Ownership Awards are an annual celebration of the achievements of rural community businesses in tackling rural issues across the UK.

We are proud and delighted to be working once again with Hastoe Housing Association as our headline sponsor to launch the 2018 Rural Community Ownership Awards, which will celebrate and raise awareness of the unique contributions community businesses make to creating resilient, thriving and inclusive rural communities.

These awards are also made possible throughout the continued support of Esmée Fairbairn Foundation; helping us celebrate the message of community business.

We have put together a short video showcasing why you should enter this year’s awards:

We are welcoming applications from Friday 20 July to Friday 28 September with shortlisted entries announced on our News section. Winners will be announced at a dedicated Awards ceremony on Wednesday 5 December at St Bride Foundation, London.

  • Entering the Rural Community Ownership Awards is FREE;
  • Being shortlisted can provide a great boost to the pride and satisfaction of the volunteers and staff who do so much to make community businesses what they are;
  • Each category winner will receive £250 as well as the support and materials to host a celebration party for the community;
  • Once you have completed the Application Form, you’ll see a notification with a link to graphics to share on social media using #PlunkettAwards;
  • Each category winner will receive a fantastic award to display and use to impress funders and customers;
  • You’ll give other communities the confidence to explore co-operation as a way of tackling their own challenges;
  • Each shortlisted community business will receive two free tickets to attend our fantastic Awards Ceremony on Wednesday 5 December in London.
  • You can enter multiple awards categories, giving the community business a better chance of winning an award; and
  • Anyone can nominate a community business for an award; it could be a committee member, staff or volunteers, customers or even a Plunkett employee or adviser who is an admirer of your business
