It’s almost upon us – the Plunkett Foundation’s Rural Community Awards 2019 – an annual celebration of the achievements of rural community businesses across the UK and a chance to inspire others.
But what does it mean to be one of the recipients? Abi Johnson of Talking Shop in Oxfordshire, winner of the 2018 ‘The Little Things’ Award, reflected on recognition: “Being acknowledged and recognised in a national award is incredibly valuable. Our volunteers see their value day to day – but seeing it as part of a bigger picture and by an external organisation is extremely important.
“Everybody at Talking Shop puts in a huge amount of effort and it is a long road. So it is really wonderful to have had all that work acknowledged by the Plunkett Foundation.”
The awards celebrate and raise awareness of the unique contributions community businesses make to creating resilient, thriving and inclusive rural communities.
