Stephanie Limb, from Holbrook Community Society, was kind enough to share an article written by her husband following the wonderful news of it opening under community ownership recently:

“It’s been quite overwhelming seeing the effect it’s had in the community, people have given every spare moment for the last 6 months to a year to first fight the planning application, then to raise funds over quite considerable odds, agree a sale with a developer and finally to renovate and split the site into the Cafe and Pub in such a short space of time. The aim has always been to create a space for everyone in the community to improve social cohesion.

I’m positive that this has already begun after the successful opening. We could not have done this without the amazing support of The Plunkett Foundation who were with us every step of the way. Our advisors, Sally Soady and Dave Hollings were so supportive and helped us to keep faith that we were going to succeed during some pretty dark moments.

This project has been all encompassing for our family these past few months! Once we’d started it we didn’t want to let the developer get their way with the partial demolition and redevelopment of the pub. It’s been a long hard road, but to see the turnout and the smiling faces this weekend, it’s all been worth it!”
