Plunkett actively seeks to create an environment in which the rural community business sector across the UK will thrive. We do this through championing their cause to create a supportive policy, funding, and advisory landscape for them to operate within. Above all, we want to create a smoother journey for communities to set up community businesses and make it easier for those already running them.
Plunkett works collaboratively and strategically at a national level with a range of stakeholders, including government and public bodies, corporates, funding institutions and other third sector organisations. Our members and the rural communities we work with are central to our advocacy role, and we seek their support to help us with consultations at both local and national level. We look to be a clear voice representing rural communities on the key issues affecting them, and to raise the profile on how community business can be best placed to help address these issues. We know that community businesses play a much deeper role than simply providing a service – they can empower rural communities to address issues such as isolation, wellbeing, loneliness, work and training.
The ways in which we seek to be a strong and active voice representing rural communities and championing the potential of community ownership UK wide, include:
