On Friday 29th September, Plunkett supporters Alex Begg and Penny Harris set off on their journey up to Scotland ready to take on the mighty Three Peaks Challenge in aid of Plunkett.

The Three Peaks Challenge sees participants attempt to climb the three highest peaks in the UK. Starting with Ben Nevis in Scotland then onto Scarfel Pike in the Lake District before finishing with Snowdon in Wales. The aim of the challenge is to complete all three peaks – climbing more than 3,060 meters and walking over 23 miles, in just 24hrs.

Along with other participants from various other causes who had also signed up to take part in the Maximum Adventure trip, Penny and Alex began their challenge with some trepidation and nerves early on Saturday 30th September.

The next 24hrs weren’t without challenges along the way. The weather of hail, rain and winds of up to 49mph made for some difficult walking conditions, and adding in Penny’s unexpected fear of heights, make their achievements even more impressive.

Between them Penny and Alex have raised just shy of £4,000 – an incredible amount of money, which will enable Plunkett to continue providing free support to the communities who need us the most, whether that’s helping them on their journey towards community-ownership or once they’re open and trading. Thanks to you their efforts, we can ensure that community businesses up and down the UK can keep being the vital lifelines to their local communities that we know they are.

Penny says of the experience “Wow what an adventure of a lifetime. If you help out and raise money for great causes, what you get back is 10-fold. Memories, strangers that have become friends and most of all a reason to live life to the full. If you open your heart and soul nothing will compare to the feeling of your own achievement.”

The biggest of thanks to both Penny and Alex from everyone at Plunkett for choosing to support our charity in such an inspiring way.

If you would like to follow in Penny and Alex’s footsteps and take on your own challenge in aid of Plunkett, we’d love to hear from you. Why not get in touch with us on 01993 630222 or email fundraising@plunkett.co.uk
