Licensed Trade Charity
The Licensed Trade Charity has been providing free of charge support to licensed trade people for over 200 years. Our helpline team offers information and emotional support, and we offer financial grants for people who have been in the trade for 5 years or more, currently working or past employees. It is estimated that around 250,000 people working in the licensed trade are in need of support at any one time and we try to reach out to as many as possible. We are honest with how we can help and, from our Trustee body, to our employees and volunteers, the staff at the Licensed Trade Charity is full of people who genuinely care about making a positive difference in others’ lives. This passion for others is woven into the fabric of who we are and what we do. We have established a number of commercial operations and investments that generate the income we use to fund our charitable work. We are grateful for the support of an army of fundraisers around the country who have been raising money to support our work throughout their careers in the trade and beyond.
Our services are free and available to anyone from the trade, past or present, whether they have been in the trade for 3 days or 30 years and includes:
- Access to our website – full of resources including downloadable help sheets on a range of topics
- Access to our helpline – available 24/7, 365 days a year providing practical and emotional guidance for a range of issues (0808 801 0550)
- Immediate access to 6 free counselling sessions if needed (subject to assessment)
- Management Line – tips for managing employees (e.g. disciplinary procedures)
- Critical Incident Support – guidance for leaders in managing the affect that traumatic events in the workplace have on the teams’ mental wellbeing (Call 01344 898550, our Charity Services Team can approve and co-ordinate this support)

For those people who have worked in the trade for 5 years or more and find themselves in need we are able to offer financial support* and additional support services. This could cover anything from new white goods, to help with funeral costs or rent arrears.
