We are pleased to announce that Alison Jeffers has been named the new Chair of Trustees at Plunkett UK.
Alison joined the Board in September 2022, having got to know Plunkett in her capacity as Chair of The Red Lion pub in the village of Preston, Hertfordshire – the UK’s first community-owned pub.
Alison has served on, and advised, boards and executive management committees on a range of matters including strategy, diversity and inclusion, cultural transformations, audit, risk, digital transformation and energy transition.
She has held a variety of progressive leadership roles in the regulated sectors of energy and telecoms and, having recently retired from full-time work, she is building a portfolio of Non-Executive and Trustee roles.

A vital and inspiring mission
Alison says, “I’m delighted to step into the role of Chair at Plunkett UK – an organisation whose mission to champion rural community businesses is both vital and inspiring. This position offers a meaningful opportunity to collaborate with our members, partners, corporate sponsors, and dedicated team as we build on Plunkett’s legacy of impact.
“As we begin a strategic review, I’m confident that Plunkett will continue to deliver tangible value to our members while forging dynamic new corporate partnerships. Together, we will work to create thriving, inclusive communities across the UK – rooted in local ownership, resilience, and shared purpose.”
James Alcock, Chief Executive, says,
“I’m thrilled that Alison has been appointed our new Chair of Trustees. She knows first-hand the impact that community businesses have, and brings with her a wealth of skills, knowledge and leadership.
“It heralds a new era for Plunkett and our trustees’ body during a period when we review current strategic priorities and set new ones to take us forward.”
“We are grateful for the ways in which each of our Trustees volunteer their time and expertise to support our charity. I’m very much looking forward to working closely with Alison in the months and years ahead to help shape Plunkett’s future.”
Alison replaces Stephen Nicol in the role of Chair, whose final task was to lead the charity’s AGM last week.
