A team of ten colleagues at Central Co-op will be going the extra mile this September by taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge in 24 hours to raise funds for Plunkett UK.
The challenge from 13-15 September will see the team attempt to climb the three highest peaks in the UK – Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales – over the course of just one day.
Together, they will be raising money to support Plunkett’s work in helping rural communities come together to set-up and run community-owned businesses.
Chris Berry, Central Co-op’s Chief of Staff, said, “We are delighted to be once again partnering with Plunkett UK in their crucial work in rural communities.
“Taking on the Three Peaks Challenge as a fundraiser this September is a really practical and fun way in which we at Central Co-op can make a difference for Plunkett and for people in rural communities who can often feel lonely and disconnected.
“We know how the co-operative model of business can be transformative and greatly value Plunkett’s role in making that happen. We’re excited by the goal of completing the Three Peaks this September, and enjoying training together this summer.”

Central Co-op is the largest independent Co-operative Society in the UK, with 7,500 colleagues, operating in 460 trading outlets across 21 counties. Its purpose is to create a sustainable Society for all, which encompasses the financial, environmental, human, and inclusive sustainability for its members, customers and colleagues.
Every penny raised will make a difference
Gemma Sills, Plunkett’s Engagement Manager, said, “We are so grateful to the team at Central Co-op for choosing to support Plunkett by taking on this iconic challenge.
“As a charity supporting more than 800 community businesses, as well as around 500 groups in the process of setting up their community business, we cannot continue to provide the vital support that we do, without the kindness of such fundraising activities.
“Every penny the team raise will go a long way to ensuring more communities across the UK can enjoy the wealth of benefits that a community-owned business can bring.”
The Central Co-op team is targeting to raise £4,000. If you’d like to support their incredible efforts, you can make a donation here.
