Is your much-loved pub under threat? Do you want to create a community space where all are welcome?
Plunkett offers FREE advice and support to community groups in the West Midlands.
Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall & Wolverhampton – we’d love to see more communities taking ownership of their much-loved pubs and social spaces to bring everyone in their neighbourhood together and helping them to prosper and thrive.
A pub under threat can turn into a social hub:
A threatened local pub can be so much more than a pub – it doesn’t even need to sell alcohol, but could become a community space, a daytime café, art gallery, pop-up library, parent and toddler group or a social space that welcomes all.
Owned by the community for the community – community pubs or social hubs have the potential to be much more than a traditional pub. They can offer additional services like a post office, a handy shop, café or a place for groups to meet. They can offer employment, training or volunteering opportunities and help local neighbourhoods tackle issues of isolation and loneliness and improve the wellbeing of all those it serves.
There are already 147 community-owned pubs across the UK successfully trading and providing the services their communities have identified and truly need.
Plunkett Foundation is a UK charity dedicated to helping communities save their pubs, shops and services through community ownership in order to ensure their towns, villages and neighbourhoods thrive. We’ve partnered with the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) to support groups by offering FREE advice and business support to help them take their first steps towards ownership of their much-loved pub or social spaces.
