George Ogier, Impact Officer at Plunkett UK, shares his reflections on the recent EDI Special Interest Group meeting held on 9 September.

Plunkett UK recently hosted the third event in a series designed to shine a light on both equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) and tackling climate change. This session looked at EDI and in particular, hidden diversity in rural areas.

We were joined by Becci Walker from Spectra, an organisation that work closely with Care Leaver Covenant. The covenant was designed to support care-experienced individuals and Becci illustrated some of the challenges they face leaving care. We looked at how community-owned businesses might also help people living through that transition.

We were also joined by Plunkett adviser, Donna McArdle. Donna spoke to attendees about creating more diverse volunteer bases, how we can support those volunteers, and how to enhance the experience of everyone involved.

This event has allowed us to create resources around both subjects and those will be made available on the Members’ Hub.
